Weekly Nursery School Update

This week in the three's Oct. 16, 2010

Another fun and busy week in the three year old class! The few children who were initially hesitant to join in are now among the first running in the door to find a friend or an activity to start their day. It was an exciting week - first the Dobbs Ferry firetruck came to visit. Firefighters JR and Big Joe showed us all the equipment the truck carries and what a firefighter needs to do his job. Big Joe put on his boots, suit and mask with oxygen for us. We got to go inside the truck, and they even took down the hydraulic ladder for us. It was so cool!

On Wed. we had a visit from the Greenburgh Nature Center and had a chance to learn about, observe and even pet several animals such as a hedgehog, a turtle, and a snake named Bracelet.

There was both red and yellow paint at the easel so the children were quite excited to mix them to make orange. The science table had many colors of fall leaves, acorns, pinecones and magnifying glasses to help discover more about these "signs of fall".

This week our job chart really began to be part of our organization of the day and most of the children recognize not only their own names, but the names of the others who have a job to do in the classroom.

If you look from outside the building into our windows you will see our squirrel project, and the pumpkin patch each child made is on the wall in the hallway above their cubbies. All of these fall art activities have at least one and often several songs/poems that go along with them which we enjoy over and over again at group time. Ask your child to sing some of them to you.

Over the next weeks we will be spending some time reading about friends and how we are all friends in our class, leading up to being a friend to people we do not even know by performing Mitzvot such as our Tzedakah on Fridays and donating to the school pajama drive. In class this will translate into giving a friend a turn with a toy we want to play with.

Have a nice weekend.
