The Tale Of The Very Quiet Children

Today, Mommy was reminded why when your children are together and being quiet equals them doing something they shouldn't be doing...taking the stuffing out of the pillow. They had a blast and left a huge mess. And all of this was before 8 am and even though they got changed into clothes for school, still had pillow remanants everywhere.

Here is a note from their teachers about the first full week of school! Clara asked "where is our challah, Mommy?" at pick up and couldn't wait to have a sandwich with it at home. Emma sang shabbat songs in the car on the way home.

"This week in the 3's Oct. 8, 2010

Finally, a full week of school and a chance to celebrate Shabbat in class!

We are concentrating on signs of fall, now that the holidays are finished. The children gathered acorns to glue to a background that they had made with a furry squirrel. Look on the back for the poem that they learned to go along with this art project.
While waiting for the leaves to actually turn color and fall down, we are learning a few fall movement/songs about those leaves.
We will be continuing on this theme for the next few weeks by taking a nature walk to find items for a fall collage and making a pumpkin patch, among other activities. (Many of you who go apple picking might see and even go to a real pumpkin patch at the local farms.)
Music with Marcy was lots of fun, and we learned some new musical words, forte (loud) and piano (soft). We look forward to her visits every Monday.
On Tuesday, the Dobbs Ferry Fire Department is coming to visit, weather permitting. We are very excited for the firetruck to arrive!
Next Wed. we have Nature! The Greenburgh Nature Center is coming with animals for us to learn about and play with.
On Fridays at our Shabbat celebration, you and the children will notice Shabbat music playing, the housekeeping area set for Shabbat and a special Shabbat table near the door of the classroom. Our tzedakah bear will also be there, waiting for the children to donate some coins. If you haven't done so, please send in a kippah in a plastic bagged labelled with your child's name. We hope to be creating our own over the next few weeks.
Our peer influenced potty training is really having an effect on those who are not yet trained. We have had a lot of success with some of the more reluctant toilet users.
Have a nice long weekend and Columbus Day! Shabbat Shalom!

And, since they needed to nap, after a quick lunch, the ladies got in the car and headed up to Newburgh to Lawrence Farm- about an hour north. It was a pretty drive and a fun outing. Clara and Emma picked some of the last pumpkins available off the vines and of course, wanted to go apple picking... again.
