A Visit to Argentina...In Queens

This morning, Mommy took Clara and Emma to The Little Orchestra's Lolli-popsHappy Family show. Clara and Emma had seen the dvd of this show after it was borrowed from Mommy's friend, Heather. They loved it and called it the "candy show." They learned about the four different parts of the orchestra and how they compare to candy- strings (violins etc)=licorice, percussion(drums etc)=gum drops, woodwind (flutes)=tootsie roll, and (horns etc)=hershey kiss. They were exposed to instruments in a creative way and enjoyed singing the songs and pretending to play the instruments. Clara enjoyed the drum part the most and was very excited that they sang "Ive been working on the railroad."

Clara and Emma absolutely loved the part where they were given candycane pencils and taught to conduct. Sure, Mommy got whacked in the face, but they both waved those pencils around and enjoyed conducting the orchestra.

And, of note, Mommy took a different way home and drove all the way up First Ave to the Madison Ave. Bridge and onto 87! While Mommy has been driving to the city for several months, each time, Mommy smiles and can't believe she is a city driver!

After their nap, the ladies enjoyed a short ride to Jackson Heights, Queens to meet Grandma Silvia and Grandpa Sam at the El Gauchito- an Argentinan restaurant. Clara and Emma behaved so nicely (Mommy had backup props- a Kai Lan coloring book with stickers and crayons) and they enjoyed the food. This is a place where everyone knows Grandma Silvia and where she buys some of the things all the family enjoys! Then, it was a walk across the street to the Argentinian bakery and then to the store- where they have tons of products from all over South America. They even greeted Grandma with"buenos noches," which means "good evening" and spoke in Spanish!
