Bright and early, Daddy went in and got Clara out of her crib. Clara, with a sleepy smile on her face, had blankie, bunny and sheep with her and happily got in the car with them. Once in the car, she said "Emma?" and then was distracted by Daddy pulling the car out of the garage.
Clara had to be at the hospital at 6:30 am for check in and after showing off her dance moves in the Admitting Office, sat and enjoyed an episode of Ni Hao Kai Lan in the waiting area. By 7:10, she was called back. She was a star- she told everyone her name, let them put the "magic band aid" on her finger (to check her pulse etc) and watched intently when they listened to her heart. She showed off her new tiara that Mommy got her and all of her Fancy Nancy and Dora stickers. After a little playtime in the play room, it was time for Clara to change into her special pajamas.
Nope... that wasn't going to happen. Clara threw a tantrum and didn't want to take her backpack or pajamas off. The staff was so accomodating and put the hospital blue hat on bunny, got Mommy dressed in a white outfit and blue hat and let Clara be carried in by Mommy with her backpack and pajamas on. On the way, Clara got a pink hat- that made her look french. It was cute.
Clara didn't get a sedative this time and didn't need an IV, like last year. She did have to have the mask on her face and didn't love that, but Mommy held her tight until she fell asleep. Very soon, the surgery was over. Mommy and Daddy met with the doctor. Dr. Deserres said Clara did very well and that her right ear had lots of yucky fluid. Mommy and Daddy got to Clara's bedside right when she was waking up. She was disoriented and didn't want anything to do with the wires on her. Mommy picked her up and then Daddy held her. Clara watched a Dora episode and ate hospital provided fruit loops and drank an apple juice box. A half hour later, the gang headed home.
The Gornstein gang did more before 9:15 am than most people do in a day!
Clara ran in the house to hug Emma and say "Happy Birthday" to Grandma Frome. And, Grandma and Grandpa Gornstein arrived at the same time.
Mommy took Grandma Frome out to lunch at Pumpernickel. And, then it was time for some spring cleaning!
Clara and Emma didn't take a great nap- Clara was a little off from the anesthesia.
Snack was a fun celebration for Grandma Frome's birthday featuring a yummy cake from Riviera and ice cream- Light Samoa ice cream with extra coconut for Grandma! Clara and Emma were a little excited by the candles and had smiles as wide as their faces as the cake came close. They also did a nice job of blowing out the candles.
Daddy and Grandpa spent the day helping to install the brand new tv down in the playroom.
Everyone is tired, but relieved.
