Nursery School Weekly Update

This week in the 3's Dec.17, 2010

We've had a fun and music filled week! On Monday, Marcy introduced some new wood percussion instruments, and each child had a turn being the conductor of the "orchestra".

Continuing with the music, we had a visit on Tuesday from Cantor Janet, who played the guitar and taught us some new songs. We also discussed with her the meaning of a few words in Hebrew from the songs, which we will be expanding upon as her weekly visits continue.

The approach of winter (especially given the blast of cold weather), has been the theme of our group discussions. Our story time has had a mixture of winter themed songs and poems, including the Peter Penguin song and the poem "The North Wind Will Blow". We have also been doing some stories and songs relating to self-esteem. Some of the books that we have read are: I Like Myself, I Like Me, (two separate books), and the song "Sometimes On My Face You'll See...", a song about feelings.

Greg from the Greenburgh Nature Center brought us 3 visitors - Corny the snake, Sneaky the very soft chinchilla and Velcro the bearded lizard. You can see from the attached photos how much rhe childlren enjoy this introduction to nature and animals.

We continue to learn about color by mixing. Everyone who took a turn at the easel enjoyed creating purple pictures by combining the red and blue paint.

Thank you to Hayden's mommy for joining us to celebrate Shabbat and bringing us a treat of canteloupe for snack.

Shabbat Shalom! Have a nice weekend.
