Clara and Emma at 16 Months

Clara and Emma are 16 months today. Yesterday, during a walk, the Gornstein girls met a set of 5 month old twins. It does go quickly!!

This month, the living room really became a second playroom for Clara and Emma. They both use their ride on toys and block wagon in this room. This is also the "reading room," where Clara and Emma take the newspapers and read them and find good sales in the circulars.

Both ladies seemed to fall in love with wearing their coat and hats inside. Now, if only Mommy could get them to want to be in them when they are outisde!

They enjoy entertaining each other in the car and trading toys and holding hands. In the stroller, they also hold hands and swap cups and snacks. Mommy and Daddy try to explain that it is the same, but they need to make sure.

Clara loves to walk around. She seems to be picking up some speed too. She can turn in circles and go backwards now. She also likes climbing- on everything, including chairs and the couch- which she figured out how to do last week. Clara loves to read and often will plop herself on a bean bag chair with a book and flip pages, pointing at the words with her finger. She also enjoys when adults read to her and gets them books and sits in their lap. She enjoys playing with mega blox, carrying her purse, lifting up and moving the stool and tunnel, and reading the newspaper. Clara can say "hi", "bye bye", "dada" "mama," and "du" for duck. She also understands instructions. She does think biting her sister to get her way is okay and when it happens, Mommy and Daddy explain otherwise. She also will push Emma. However, if Emma is crying, she comes over to make sure she is okay. Clara sleeps with her blankie and a bear and just started gathering all of them when she wakes up. Mommy thinks she got this from Emma. She also goes over to the crib when she is tired and points to it.

Emma is still the world's fastest crawler. She has started to stand for a little bit on her own and occassionally, will take a few steps. She also takes Mommy's hand (or this month, Grandma Frome's hand) and says "walk" and takes some steps. Emma was evaluated for early intervention this month and will start services in mid-December. Emma is playing better by herself and doesn't scream and cry when Mommy leaves the room. Emma enjoys playing with the Brightling toy, the Fisher Price door, and mega blox. Emma loves to talk on the phone and seems to finally get that she needs to put it up to her ear. She loves to read the duck book. She enjoys the tunnel and riding the ride on toys. She also enjoys playing with her tea set and stirring the tea. Emma needs her "Beh" which is the blankie to sleep and her bear. She gathers all of them when she wakes up and they come out of the crib with her. Emma has quite a vocabulary. It includes "Elmo"- which she says anytime she sees one, including on her diaper, "Don't touch" - which she learned when Mommy told her not to touch the poopy diaper, and buckle. Emma can also say her name now.

It has been an interesting month with food. The fork came in play this month and both ladies enjoy using it. Emma and Clara love cheese and would eat it all day if they could. There have been days where Clara isn't intersted in anything but fruit- bananas, pears and strawberries are her favorite. Clara and Emma enjoy eating out and do a great job at restaurants.

Mommy has realized that what her friend Laura Opack O'Connell said about twins was true-it is like having a constant playdate.

Clara and Emma are on pretty much the same schedule and have two naps a day. Mommy and Daddy did some experimenting with one nap this month, but it didn't work very well. The ladies wake up at 7 am and eat by 7:15. They take their first nap at about 10 and it lasts for a little more than an hour. After lunch, they play and take their afternoon nap at around 2--230. They eat dinner at 5:15 and go to bed at 6.
