It has been a bit of a trying few weeks and last night was pretty awful. Emma woke up several times screaming, waking up Clara, until finally, Mommy and Daddy tried to let her cry it out, with Clara sleeping in Mommy and Daddy's bed. After more than 20 minutes of screaming, Mommy went in and slept on the floor. Sure, there are questions about whether to separate the ladies and put them in different rooms, but they like to know the other one is there and it most likely would be worse, so for now, Clara is being woken up by Emma in the middle of the night until this is resolved.
It is unclear why Emma is waking up at night. Some ideas include the fact that she is burping more recently and it is possible the reflux is back. She also may have night terrors and be legitimately scared. Now that milk has been almost completely taken out of her diet, the stomach issue is resolved. There are lots of things in play.
Over the weekend, she picked out a new butterfly night light, because one of her complaints was that she couldn't see anything (in fact, she says she doesn't want to sleep because when she closes her eyes, she can't see people).
Both Mommy and Daddy were exhausted today. When Mommy went to get the kids at camp, the counselor reported that they were well-behaved and "had a great day." While incredibly frustrating on some level, it is somewhat of a relief that they hold it in and when the see Mommy, let it out. Just a quick note on camp- it is incredibly funny to drop the kids off in the drop off lane. They shriek with joy when they see their counselor, Zach and Clara can't wait to show him her "rainbow" bathing suit- which, if she could, would wear every day- she throws quite a fit over the suit and outfit selection. Mommy is a little curious what she does at camp when the clothes come out, and if she fights with Emma over the tops.
Mommy let Emma cry it out during her nap and she went back to sleep and woke up in a happy mood following her nap for the first time in weeks. By the time they had snack, changed out of their sleeping clothes and were ready to go, it was almost dinner time, so the gang stayed in and relaxed.
Tonight, Mommy took Grandma Frome's advice and gave Emma and Clara her old baby blankets (yes, the ones that Mommy had when she was a baby). After the excitement, they both climbed into bed with their new blankets and said goodnight. Also, using a friend, Brooke's advice, Mommy told Emma (and Clara) that if they slept through the night, they'd get a star each morning and on Friday would get to pick something out of the treasure box. Plus, Emma was given some Maalox, something she had when she was a baby for the reflux. Let's hope for a better night.
