Clara and Emma Get a Bug

On Monday, Mommy found out that a child in Clara and Emma's class was diagnosed with Scarlet Fever- a fancy way of saying strep with a rash (for those that read Fancy Nancy, that was for you). Mommy should note that saying the word "scarlet fever" reminds her of Little Women for some reason. While Clara had a cold, complete with a green runny nose and a nice cough, Emma had only started to develop a cough, but Grandma Frome noticed a rash on her tummy. So, after dropping Grandma and Grandpa Frome off at the train, Mommy headed to the pediatrican. Two throat cultures later and there is no strep. That said, Emma did have a rash that spread and looks the way the rash for scarlet fever looks and Clara has the same cold she has had for a month, so both were given antibiotic (yes, the same one).

Yesterday, Mommy announced it was time to get dressed, so Clara said "pink" and walked in her room and picked two sweatshirts off the floor (which Mommy had not put away yet) and gave them to Mommy and said "put on."

Emma's rash still remains and she has developed a cough- most likely two separate things. Mommy is convinced that Emma has strep in her tush like last time and that is why the throat culture was negative. Who knows.

Mommy got each lady a chocolate milkshake and they each had some- at least it is something. They haven't eaten in days! A quick trip to the mall to return something and Costco were the outings for the day.

Today, Emma didn't have a great day and was up early. She napped in the car and Mommy put both ladies down very early for a nap. Clara slept for nearly 3 hours and Emma only 45 minutes. She didn't let go of her blankie or hippo all day and just didn't want to do anything except lay in bed and watch tv. Emma's rash is starting to look better and the dr. swears that after now 48 hours on antibiotic it isn't contagious and that if it were scarlet fever, there would be other signs.

Tonight, Clara started to feel better and grabbed her guitar and followed along to the video on Nick Jr. of Laurie Berkner singing "Now I'm 5 Days Old." She also was very thoughtful and picked up the diaper off the floor and tried to put it in the pail. When Mommy asked her what she was doing, she said "I help you."
