This (full!) week in the 3's Feb. 11, 2011
On Monday, Marcy introduced new instruments to the children - resonator bells. Each child had 2 bells to softly (piano) tap with a mallet. The sound was beautiful, as there was a mixture of the keys A, C and G. It was like hearing wind chimes on a breezy summer day.
On Tuesday Cantor Janet came and sang "Etzbaot" (Fingers) with the children. She taught them the hokey-pokey with Hebrew words for the body parts, as well as Hinei Ma Tov and David Melech Yisrael.
We made playdough the color of a snowman and added some silver glitter for fun.
At group time, Lauren made a chart of pets that the children (and teachers) have at home. We read The Cat In The Hat Comes Back and Cat Traps.
Gina has had some special circle time activities up her sleeve to excite and attract the attention of all of the children, before and after the calendar and weather helpers have had their turns.
Our healthy mini-muffins were a huge success. We are including the original recipe which we try to make healthier by the noted changes
Bran Muffins
PreHeat oven to 400 degrees.
NOTES
2 cups raisin bran can use plain bran flakes and add raisins
or craisins if desired
1 1/4 cup flour can use 1/2 whole wheat, 1/2 regular
cinammon to taste we used a lot!
1 cup milk we used skim
1 egg can use 2 egg whites instead
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 cup brown sugar
Mix all dry ingredients first, then add liquids. Mix gently then pour into muffin cups. Bake for about 15 mins.
On Wednesday we celebrated Hayden's birthday in our class!
The children painted their "slice collages", incorporating torn paper into the painting a la Eric Carle. About half the children have made these collages, but we plan to offer the art project several more times to entice those who have not yet made one.
Thursday was Picture Day, and Gina began our study of the Five Senses unit in earnest, reading and discussing the book My Five Senses with the children. Some of the children's bodies have already been traced, some are yet to be done, as we begin identifying what the senses are and how we use them.
Shabbat Shalom! Have a nice weekend!
