Shana Tova 2010

Happy Jewish New Year!

Wednesday, Mommy took Clara and Emma to the bank. Emma said "what is a bank? Is it like Mr. Banks on Mary Poppins?" Ummm..adorable! After, it was off to the second half of Clara's CPSE meeting, because it was decided that she should be screened for OT and PT. Clara, in addition to getting Speech twice a week, will now also get PT. The great news is that they will be scheduled at the same time on Monday and Thursday afternoons. Mommy fed the ladies lunch in the car and they fell right to sleep while Mommy drove to Staten Island- this time via the Saw Mill, GW Bridge and 95. Not bad traffic and an hour later, the gang arrived to Grandpa Gornstein's hugs. Daddy and Grandma came soon after.

Clara and Emma were given a book- The Little Ballerina Dancing Book which features some dances with directions and cd of ballet music. Emma couldn't get enough of it and loved being instructed on how to do the swan dance and the sugarplum fairy dance.

Clara and Emma put their hand on the challah, just like they learned at school and with a little prompt to start, recited the entire blessing. Everyone was so proud of them! While they didn't eat the knedalach, they couldn't get enough broth. And, of course, the big hit was the rainbow cookies!

The gang slept in Staten Island. Emma woke up at 3:30 and crawled into bed with Mommy and Daddy, followed by her sister a few hours later. A tired crew woke up to Grandma's challah french toast. Because it would have been a long drive to the city for services, Mommy and Daddy took Clara and Emma to the Staten Island Zoo. Clara and Emma liked watching the kangaroos and jumping like them, feeding the ducks, helping Mommy feed the llamas, goats and pigs and enjoyed another pony ride!

Emma slept with Daddy and took a very long nap- two and a half hours! Clara slept with Mommy and woke up and was still very tired, but rebounded for some afternoon fun. Later, the gang headed to Susy and Maurice's house for dinner. Clara was exhausted and was happiest by the tv. Emma was able to eat and entertain everyone.

Today, Mommy held a brief presentation cermony of the very wanted Kai Lan doll to Clara. She stood up and Mommy said "presenting to Clara Julia Gornstein on the occassion of pooping on the potty and being a big girl, your Kail Lan doll." She jumped up and down and smiled so brightly. And, yes, there was a Rintoo doll for Emma (from the same show) but with no presentation. The ladies joined Mommy at their school, Greenburgh Hebrew Center for the tot services. Clara was tired and clung to Mommy the whole time. Emma wanted her kippah, went to her cubby, and wore it- even if she had to put her hand on top of her head to keep it on- while participating. They both loved making apple jacks bracelets (Mommy's idea) and the Torah parade. And, of course, the huge hit was snack- apples and honey, challah, graham crackers and pretzels.

They were so tired, Mommy cuddled with both of them in her bed and they went to sleep for a few hours. Mommy took the kids for ice cream ( a sweet treat for the new year) and Daddy met the ladies so Mommy could run errands. After some baseball in the cul de sac, it was time for dinner, bath and bed. Mommy has been saying "for the love of god," and now, Emma says it.

Emma has been taking two laxatives since Monday night and unfortunately, with little result, other than that her stomach hurts. The dr. is trying to figure out how to do the tests that need to occur while she is sedated at the same time, so Mommy and Daddy are trying to be patient and wait for a date. Emma has been complaining about her tummy and it is hard to watch. Truth be told, while it is hard, Mommy and Daddy know ultimately it could much worse and are grateful that there will be an answer eventually and she'll be okay.
