Mommy dropped Emma off at home with the sitter and drove off to the city with Clara for an appointment with a new ENT.
Just to make the day exciting, Mommy got a call from the babysitter right as she and Clara arrived at the doctor's office in NYC. Apparently, Emma was screaming and crying and saying her ear hurt. And, the sitter reported that Emma felt really warm. Go figure. So, Mommy tried to fill out forms for Clara's appointment and coordinate what the sitter should do with Emma.
First, Mommy reached Daddy -who responded "Emma was fine this morning. Are you sure?" and he was able to get on a train- which would get him home around 3- way before Mommy could get there. Mommy called neighbor Maya and asked to borrow a car seat (lesson learned: must have an emergency extra seat!) and she had a baby seat- since Emma is small and not 30 lbs, that was going to have to work. Mommy called the pediatrician, explained the situation and told them the sitter would bring Emma. Soon, Mommy got a call from the pediatrican that indeed, Emma had an ear infection in her right ear. What an amazing sitter!!
As for Clara, she has almost no hearing out of her right ear due to fluid and some out of her left ear- but fluid in both. The choices remain to let the fluid hopefully go away on its own or put tubes in again. Because of her history, hearing loss (not permanent) due to the fluid and speech issues, the doctor suggested waiting a month and then seeing how the ears were and then putting in tubes if no improvement.
Exhausted, the gang settled in early for the night and waited for the snow!
