Yankee Shoes With Tires

Clara and Emma wore pants today for the first time in weeks so they could play soccer. After, it was off to Staten Island for lunch and a visit with Grandma and Grandpa Gornstein. Clara and Emma enjoyed seeing them and getting all the goodies from their tirp to Argentina- including lots of the "shtick' from cousin Vanina's wedding (hats, light up toys and more!). At lunch, Mommy caught Clara in an "Auntie Alyssa" moment - as she twirled her hair around her finger.

Clara and Emma don't have school or camp this week, so Mommy will be trying to keep them busy in lots of ways. To start, they both need haircuts and new sneakers. Mommy told them about the shoes and Emma stated what she wanted. It took Mommy fifteen minutes to figure out what Emma wanted with the request of "yankee shoes with tires." What Emma would like is "Nike shoes that you can tie." She saw her soccer coaches wearing Nike shoes with a pink swoosh and decided that she had to have them. Emma actually can tie a knot- at first Mommy thought it was a fluke, but she gives intsructions and she ties it and can do several in a row.
Tonite was  repeat and the kids performed several shows!

It has been incredibly difficult to get the kids to sleep- even though they are exhausted. Emma screams that she is scared and wants to sleep with Clara (who doesn't want her in her bed) or with Mommy or Daddy. Mommy tries everything, but it seems only Daddy can get her to sleep. Tonight, Mommy tried showing her the chart and adding "going to sleep" and telling her she'd get two magnets each day and if she did it all week, she'd get sorbet (since she can't have dairy these days) with whatever toppings she wanted. Emma wanted to really sleep in the same bed as Clara and when Mommy said that there was no way they'd sleep and they'd just talk and play, Emma responded, "Mama, I'll go to sleep, trust me." Mommy laughed quite a bit. Then Clara chimed in, "Mommy, trust her." Yeah, no.

And, yes, there are also middle of the night wake ups that feature her being scared of everything and anything. The only good news is that several of her friends are also pulling the same thing... so there are lots of mamas and papas in the Rivertowns walking around in a daze and in need of caffeine after being up half the night.
